What is the Rydberg constant used for?

Rydberg constant (R_H) isn't an invented constant.

It was discovered by Johannes Rydberg that correlates to the energy emitted/absorbed when there is a transition in energy level (n₁ to n₂) of electrons in the hydrogen atom.
