Title: ACS Grade and food application
Post by: anyoan1 on December 20, 2024, 01:41:15 AM
Are ACS Grades suitable for food application?
Usually ACS Grade seems to be more pure on the paper.
Why when something is ACS doesn't automatically make it FCC Grade even though it has stricter specifications, often overlapping.
Is it just a legal safeguard by manufacturers?

Because they were not defined this way in the law. Legal rules are blind and have to be followed to the letter, even if the logic suggests otherwise.

One alternate approach is to buy the acs grade and then test it to food grade specs.  To do this your reagents and other test equipment must be food grade.  And employees trained appropriately.  And when something fails, well, that's another whole kettle of fish.  Usually, its easier just to buy food grade.
