Title: using ammonia solution as catalyst, does it react with the precursor?
Post by: smurf88 on April 05, 2010, 11:18:44 AM
I did a complexation between 3,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde 4-methylthiosemicarbazone with Ni(II) chloride. I added ammonia solution (30%) as the catalyst. In the end,how do I know that the ligand didn't react with ammonia but with the nickel salt? ??? ??? ???
FYI, end of the reflux, I got dark precipatate. I didn't get any precipitate if I didn't use ammonia solution.
Anyone could help me with this is much appreciated! ;D
