Hi.
I have one nickel plate with dimensions 10x10cm.
My goal is to apply nickel oxide on to this plate.
Can someone write down the simples method how to make this.
It's DIY project and I'm not that much into chemistry so please describe this as simpler as possible.
One important thing.
Is nickel oxide cancerous and should i take additional percussions doing this project ?

Here's an online reference regarding making a nickel oxide electrode. Its a bit esoteric, in that its making a nickel oxide capacitor coating on a nickel sputtered gold electrode, but it gives you the info you need to get started -- chemicals needed, voltages, and baking to remove adsorbed water. It might work.

Thank you for link, but its bit to complex for me.
The main idea is to try to make the edison battery.
Battery consists of iron an nickel plate but both plates need to be oxidised.
There are some videos and how to on making iron oxide but the part with applying the nickel oxide is complicated, at least for me.
Do you know some simpler solutions ?.

Nickel plate:
I do have one other solution but I need confirmation from you guys.
I will heat the nickel plate in my microwave oven for some time.
The temperature is enough to create some oxide layer.
Safety:
- if I use this method, when the "baking" is over what's with the gasses ?
- should i take additional precisions after the heating process is over ?

I have always heard that heating metal in a microwave is not good.
I wonder if there is a regular stove that goes to 400C or 800F.
If not and you are determined to use the microwave, you might want to be far away from it - and i am not sure that will help
since i am not a microwave authority

I doubt the typical home microwave can get a metal plat hot enough to oxidize it without damaging the microwave's plastic parts. You could roast the plat in an open fire, but you probably won't get the even coating of oxide you need for propper battery performance. Wikipedia says the active media in a battery is contained in tubes. The solid oxide may be too friable to just plate out and use as a battery.

The microwave oven was just joke.
I heated 1mm iron sheet i 2 mm nickel part on normal oven.
As far as i know there should not be any dangerous gasses.
Before heating the plates ware silver and shining and after heating for approx 20 minutes, iron sheet becomes dark blue/purple and nickel turned into brown/orange.
So the question is has this sheet produced oxide layer?

It may have, 'tho I would roast it more to be sure. One way you'll know it works is when it functions as a battery in the application you've planned for it.

1300 degrees will be enough for what i need. It's almost a melting point...
Btw. i will send some photos when i make this but the color are as i described.

What do I get when I abrade steel ?
This sparks are Ferro oxide but which one.
If i want to make a solid plate ( iron oxide cathode ) of this abraded steel, which binding material should I use ? This binding material can't be some standard glue because i don't know if this will dissolve in KOH and I don't know if it will conduct how it should ... The idea is to use this oxidised iron and to create the cathode plate instead of using whole iron sheet.
