Is there anyone who did his PhD. in Germany? Im considering going there for mine so Im looking for any experiences. ALso any hints about groups doing interesting research are also welcome (preferably in area of synthesis of heterocyclic compounds but Im interested in reading basicaly about any kind of synthesis)

Hi Kriggy, I went there for one exchange semester as a student so I don't know much, but if I could choose I would check Dirk Trauner's group:

Thanks I attended Trauner´s lecture at conference and they do impressive stuff but Im not sure if it is the group I want to join.

I can't tell for the research group, but among German cities, Munich is certainly very nice. And you'll get a true cold sunny winter there, resembling more the Czech Republic, not the grey damp monthlong thing we have nearer to the Atlantic.

So far I failed to find a group in Munich that would interest me :/ I got one in Wurtzburg, one in Bayereuth and one in Gotingen (suggested by Dan). Im looking for more before I will contact the professors to ask them if they have free positions etc..
