« on: August 13, 2006, 11:41:28 AM »
How the product may look alike ???

1) Reaction of copper (II) ion and ammonia (limited and excess)
2) Reaction between iron (III) ion and KSCN ...
3) Reaction between cobalt(II) ion and potassium cyanide ( limited ans excess)
4) Reaction that occurs when the mixture of Mn2+ , PbO2 and HNO3 ( conc) is heated

Hopefully somebody can help me .  ;)

The first two reactions can be found easily on google and wikipedia; please attempt them yourself (See the forum rules). The third and fourth are also on google.
When you add limited KCN to Co(II) you get a brown(/purple) precipitate of Co(CN)2 and when excess KCN is added you get a green solution [Co(CN)6]4- which can be oxidised by air to yellow [Co(CN)6]3-.
I am not sure about the source I found which provided the answer for Q4, but I think the products of the reaction would be purple permanganate and Pb2+.
