If atoms change the proton count in the nucleus, it is usually physics not chemistry.  If an atom changes the proton count, it changes the type of element it is and we call it radioactivity (like Uranium-238 decaying to Thorium-234 by loss of an alpha particle). 

In processes usually considered chemical, changes in charge occur by gain or loss of electrons.

1 positive charge means one proton extra. So C has 6 electron and 6 electrons in the neutral state.

Ok Now I got it, not 5 and not 7. Then it is 6 protons because protons number are constant. Thank you all for teaching me this way because, in this method, I will never forget the concept anymore. thanks a lot.
