Question about concentration of solutions
« on: October 26, 2019, 10:32:55 AM »
Hi, I've got a problem regarding concentration of solutions.

The question is "Concentrated phosporic acid contains 85% H3PO4 by mass and has a density of 1.69 g/mL. Assuming 1000 mL solution, calculate"

a. mass of solute
    = I just followed the formula, % mass = mass(solute)/mass(solution) x 100, and I got 1436.5 g

b. molality
     = following molality's formula, I got 57.71 mol/kg.

c. molarity
      =following its formula, I got 14.66 mol/L.

d. Normality
     = following its formula, I got 43.98

My question is, did I get it right? If not, where did I go wrong? Any responses are appreciated. Thanks!

Sorry for the format since I'm using mobile to post this.

Why do you think so?
After all, each calculation can be checked to start from the final result and calculating the percentage concentration from it.

I got slightly different value, can you post your calculations?

0.2 % error - may be neglected.

Depends on who checks the results ;)

As I wrote - "slightly". But often checking what has happened is a learning moment.
