Hi everyone,
I am working on a lab report for the isolation of cholesterol lab. This experiment consisted of a series of four chemical reactions to convert pure cholesterol to 4-cholesten-3-one. First a bromination, then an oxidation, a debromination and finally as isomerization using oxalic acid. I must calculate the percent yield for the intermediate 5-cholesten-3-one which was yielded after the debromination of dibromocholestanone using zinc powder. as well as the final product, 4-cholesten-3-one. I understand how to go about these calculations, however I can’t seem to find the balanced reactions for the debromination step or the isomerization step anywhere online. I need the stoichiometric coefficients of the two equations in order to calculate percent yield. Would anyone be able to help me with that?? Thank you in advance!
