Making Aspirin
« on: November 14, 2006, 06:45:25 PM »
I was wondering, if you wanted to make aspirin for a project.  Would you just need to combine 9 parts carbon, 8 parts hydrogen and 4 parts oxygen?  Or is it more complicated than this?

More complicated and easier at the same time. Google aspirin or acetylsalicylic acid synthesis.

agreed, its a fairly simple synthesis but it's much more complicated then combining 9 parts carbon, 8 parts hydrogen and 4 parts oxygen. You might want to look up isomerism to see why.
