Explain the conversion of neutron to proton and proton to neutron by use Positron in an nucleus on unstable element.

What is neutrino?

2X4 + Beta particle---->3Y4

Now why does atomic number of this element increase with emmiting of beta particle.I know beta particles are electrons of nuclear origin.But how can an emmision leads to increase why dont it decrease the atomic number by 1 which sounds reasonable as in case of positron emmision.Explain please.

What factors affect the stability of nucleus?What is the relation of stability with neutron/proton ratio in the nucleus?

Beta emission corresponds to a loss of the negative charge component of a neutron. Therefore the relative quantity of positive matter increases: 0 - (-1) = +1

Yeah.  Think of Beta emission as the decomposition of a neutron into a proton and an electron.  The electron is then shot out of the atom.  Per the laws of conservation of mass/charge, the nuclear mass of the atom doesn't change, and the negative charge of the electron that was shot out is balanced by the formation of a proton in the nucleus.  (While the mass isn't exactly conserved, that's just nitpicking.  :P)  The reverse happens in electron capture "deacy".  During electron capture, a proton in the nucleus combines with a "captured" electron to create a neutron, thus decreasing the atomic number by one.

As for the stability, go into the links section and take a look at Theodore Gray's Periodic Table Table.  If you click on the Technetium tile, it will contain a link to a VERY detailed and solid explanation about the "Sea of Stability" in regards to proton/neutron ratios.

Hmm.....ok got it.just as we got holes and electrons in semiconductors.Each time a electron leaves result in formation of hole which is said to be of positive charge.
