Titanium extraction- Kroll Process
«

So I am learning about the Kroll Process-
Titanium Oxide. Why do we not use Magnesium or Sodium to get rid of the oxide?
Why react with chlorine first and then react with Magnesium and Sodium to get rid of the chloride from Titanium Chloride?
