I've been doing very extensive research on this. I wonder if different surface finishes, on the copper, or different types of copper would work faster. Copper sulfate, copper oxide, and zinc nano particles seem to be favored by the companies who are developing Covid killing masks.
Here are some of links I have collected on the subject:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sws8MrfVUNg"Copper is a superior metal compared to silver in terms of antibacterial properties. Copper can kill 99.9% of bacteria in 30 minutes. Silver can kill 99.9% of bacteria in 60 minutes. Copper can kill bacteria in all conditions. Silver can only kill bacteria in humid and wet conditions. Copper can also exert a Halo effect meaning that copper can even kill bacteria on objects in close proximity to the copper."

"hospital-acquired infections are becoming increasingly common and costly, killing 50,000-100,000 Americans annually, and costing more than $8 billion, according to one estimate."
"It is important to note that only dry copper surfaces are amazingly lethal to bacteria. The difference between dry and wet surfaces, such as copper pipes, is that only dry surfaces are inhospitable environments for bacterial growth. Bacteria can easily grow and reproduce in wet environments, and in so doing, they can develop resistance to copper. Resistance has not been observed to develop on dry copper surfaces."
