Aromatic hydroxy group? Title
« on: August 10, 2020, 02:45:56 PM »
I have a title of a paper, I am not sure about if I should name it protecting group for aromatic hydroxyl groups or aryl hydroxyl groups.
I have one example with a 2-naphtol so I dont think I can name it phenolic hydroxyl groups.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

I think 2-naphthol falls under the broad functional group of "a phenol."

Any chemist would know what you were talking about if you said "Phenol protecting group," and apply it in their minds to naphthol, hydroxy anthracene etc etc.

Correct

Die Headline should be: Protecting group for phenols.

Thanks, I think you are right, this would be much more elegant.
