terrestrial / aquatic ecosystems

Ok..  from what I understand, a terrestrial ecosystem is the earth receiving energy from the sun.  Am I right to say that is the ultimate ecosystem the earth gets from the sun?

For the aquatic ecosystem...  I'm thinking little fish eaten by a bigger fish, eaten by a bigger fish...

i don't get your question. Do you want to know the trophic level of the producers in the aquatic anbd terrestrial ecosystems ?

Btw: what has this to do with chemistry (or more specific: chemical biology?)

this is from a chemistry fundamentals: an environmental perspective text book.  The question asks Define the word ecosystem.  (did that) Give an example of a terrestrial and an aquatic ecosystem. 

I followed the rules and answered to the best of my knowledge.
