If you add a seed crystal of cholesterol monohydrate (plate) to a saturated dried solution of cholesterol in chloroform what are the next turn of events? Does growth occur on the seed? In that case would it proceed as the pseudomorph (anhydrous plate morphology)? Or would the anhydrous cholesterol grow separately as needles? Or would the chloroform dry out the seed to its pseudomorph anhydrous plate which then proceeds to grow?

I think its probably the latter scenario, because it makes for easiest growth of the solute. The anhydrous needles are the metastable form so I'm guessing growth would be preferred for the pseudomorph plate for optimum reduction of energy
