1. A large collection of helium atoms has an average speed of 1310 m/s. What is the temperature of this gas?
Below is the steps I've taken to solve this problem using the u
av
formula, but I'm having trouble with units/getting the correct answer (which is 324K). If you're wondering what happened between steps #3 and #4, I just squared both sides to get rid of the root sign. Thanks in advance for any help provided.
EDIT: fixed pic

Recall that one joule, J = kg m
2
s
-2
. In order for the kg to cancel out in the units of step #3 (the quantity in the sqrt bracket should have units of m
2
s
-2
K
-1
), your molar mass should be in units of kg/mol, not g/mol.

What if the helium is 1K in Devar flask flying Concorde?
