modelling degradation reactions into CO2 capture unit using MEA
« on: November 11, 2020, 12:14:36 PM »
Hello,
We are hoping to model an MEA CO2 capture unit and include the reactions for thermal and oxidative degradation of MEA. For our first try, we wanted to modify an existing example of acid gas treating unit using MEA.
The example uses the ‘Acid Gas-Chemical Solvent’ property package which automatically generates specific reactions sets that can't be modified; we have found some equations for thermal and oxidative reaction and keyed them into the reaction manager (‘some components we had to define as hypothetical “HYSYS” components )and added them to the list of reactions as an independent set, but when it comes to associating the reactions to the fluid package the option isn’t there. We tried adding another FP basis (Peng Robinson) and added some components just to check, and that one could be associated. However, we don’t think  PR would be the best package to model these equations, and also we would have a problem when simulating because both reaction sets (absorption and degradation) will take place in the column but only one fluid package basis can be added to the unit block.

Any advice on resources, solutions or alternative approaches would be much appreciated.
