chemestry question stuck
« on: February 04, 2021, 05:50:23 PM »
So I'm trying to do these questions but I'm on a part I'm not getting anywhere with. It asked me Calculate the theoretical yield and % yield of SrCl2. I'm suck due to being at home and being a visual type learner I'm trying to find one close to it but with zero luck

the balance equation is this Sr(OH)2 + 2HCl --> SrCl2 + 2H2O

The mass of SrCl2 is .717

Sr(OH)2•8H2O has a mass of 1.231

I got 13.23 as the volume with both HCl and Sr(OH)2•8H2O

Mass Sr(OH)2•8H2O (s)   Actual Vol HCl (mL)   Mass SrCl2 (s)
   1.231                                    9.60              0.717
Its due soon And im stuck on it

To find the theoretical yield, you must first identify the limiting reagent.  Do you know what that is?

I think have need to find the first 2 before the reaction It been awhile since I was in chemistry class last semester do I take the molar mass and weight of the thing because it dong give u that mass for any besides the SrCl2 and  the Sr(OH)2•8H2O

Were you given the concentration of HCl?  This is typically given in moles per liter and given the symbol M, for molarity.

From this mass of hydrated strontium hydroxide, you can get a bit more strontium chloride.
Start with the balanced neutralization equation and show your calculations. It's hard to guess where you are making a calculation error.

Find out what strontium chloride hydrate can be formed and write the hydrate equation, finally, 1 mole of strontium hydroxide octahydrate gives 1 mole of another hydrate of strontium chloride.

Is it can it form 6 because I'm about to lose it from stress due to how hard this is and 0 info on what to do by my Prof like the last question asked about lab note book I've been into 1 in person last semester and I did not use it and the lab closed due to confirmed cases in that lab

Wouldn't hurt to see question as asked, you gave some random pieces of data and it is pretty difficult to guess what the question is about.
