Iodine Values of Fatty Acids, Wijs Method
« on: March 23, 2021, 10:57:30 AM »
Does anyone know the best way to dispose of an iodine value titration after it's complete?  The procedure I'm following (AOCS Method Tg 1a-64) doesn't have any recommendations and I haven't been able to find any suggestions online.  I haven't performed the titration yet because I want to make sure that I know exactly what I need to do before starting.

best way to dispose of an iodine value titration

Not sure what the question is - you mean how to deal with the waste?

I mean the solution containing my sample, Wijs solution, sodium thiosulfate, etc. (not sure what the term for this is, sorry).  I want to know how to safely dispose of this once I've completed the test.  I wasn't sure if this would be safe to dump down the sink or if it would be best to have a hazardous waste disposal company to take it.

The solvent with the fat has to be collected as hazardous waste.. The aquaeous titration sample can be dumbed into the sink.
