synthesis of acetaminophen
« on: September 25, 2004, 06:45:37 PM »
I am completing my write up for a lab that dealt with the synthesis of acetaminophen. However I am having problems calculating the percent yield. I keep on getting a percent yield of 3020% and I can't see this being close to correct. We used 1.05g of p-aminophenol, 1ml of acetic anhydride, and I got 44.37g of product. Am I doing something incorrectly or is 3020% really the percent yield? Thanks.

The total mass of products won't exceed the total mass of the reactants

Yeah, I think someone zeroed the weight scale with some object that was light before I weighed my product throwing my results off. Oh well.
