Complete Ionic equation help needed
« on: June 13, 2023, 02:01:15 PM »
Well, I'm a non-chemistry senior citizen trying to understand a gold refining technique called cuppelation.
In brief, "raw" unrefined molten AU in a bowl of powdered Portland Cement can draw out the metal impurities as metallic oxides and thus refine the Au to about 92% purity. In addition to the initial Au, Pb metal is added as a collector metal.

Will you kindly provide the complete ionic formula?
My awkward unsuccessful attempt:
Complete ionic equation for Au2O(l)+ Pb (l) + Cu20(l) +2AgOH(l) + Hg(l) => CaSiO4 (s)

There is no simple single reaction equation. You have a reacting mixture and every impurity reacts separately on its own, following its own reaction equation.
