Interesting, I always thought of quantum dots more as of physics phenomena, not as a chemistry achievement.

Not that it doesn't make sense, and not that these are completely separate fields in many areas.

Hi Borek and the others,

What nanodots could bring had been theorized for decades. In that sense, 2023 is late for a physics prize.

But we long had no means (and still no very cheap means suitable to LED) to achieve such sizes by patterning. The progress in production capability came from chemists. This makes the breakthrough a candidate for a chemistry prize.

Well, one has to make them to study them. And making them stable and uniform in size is the challenge.
