Hello everyone. On one site, for the purpose of school laboratory work, I read that for the preparation of nitroglycerin should take 8 ml of glycerol, 30 ml of BOTH CONCENTRATED nitric acid and 60 ml of concentrated sulfuric acid. GPT Chat calculated from the reaction CH2OH-CHOH-CH2OH + 3HNO3 [in the presence of H2SO4] => CH2ONO2-CHONO2-CH2ONO2 + 3H2O that we will get 20 g (12.5 ml) of nitroglycerin.
Do I have to take concentrated nitric acid, or can I use the more common 56% nitric acid? If so, how much more? And are the proportions written above true?
I would be very grateful for your help
