Analysis of Methamphetamine on graphene
« on: January 22, 2024, 05:38:33 AM »
Hi Everyone,

We recieved a kind of guesstimation question in class:

You have deposited a “monolayer” of N-methyl-alpha-methylphenethylamine on a 1×1 cm graphene surface.
a. Which method(s) do you suggest for qualitative (ideally also quantitative) analysis?
b. Describe your possible approach (from sample to result)!
c. Estimate how much substance is deposited on the surface and evaluate the feasibility of the analysis!

Since the question is very vague and i've never worked with graphene in any analytical context, i am a bit lost;
To estimate the amount of substance on the surface, i took the VdW-Surface of one molecule and estimated how much area one molecule could possibly occupy on the given area. I calculated the number of possible molecules in the monolayer accordingly and so on.

But qualitative and quantitative methods? I found papers which used graphene as a matrix for MALDI-MS, but Methamphetamin seems too small for this method, maybe something like DESI-MS could work?

I would be very happy if someone has a suggestion!
