Na2SO4 Anhydrous Purity ; Gravimetric Method
« on: January 27, 2024, 12:07:16 PM »
 :)
Hii
Hope all doing well.

One of my new tasks is to check the Na2SO4 Anhydrous purity ( Expected 99% and more ); I have read the gravimetric Method

I followed the same for more than 10 times and unfraternally i got more than 100% all times ( 116%, 120%...etc ) which is not acceptable

I need support to the method of check the purity Na2SO4 Anhydrous..

Below was my steps:

1- dissolve 0.2 gm of Na2SO4 into 100 ml DM water
2- add 10-15ml of HCL , Sligh heat
3- add hot (10%)barium chloride ( 15-20mL ) slowly and keep it till boil
4- Filtered on Crucible G.3 ( previously washed and dried and take empty wight )
5- Once the filtering done, We kept on the oven for 4 hour at 115C
6- Than we took the wight after cooled at desiccators

But the percentage is not get as we expected always above 100%

Is there any further method to check the purity of Na2SO4.

The most problem is huminity.
115 ° C is in my opinion also low temperature, probably increase to 200 °C
If possible use an oven, where you also can  get vacuum on it.
