Evaluation of multiple GC Export files
« on: December 03, 2024, 03:10:28 AM »
Hello there,

for a new research project I'll have to do GC Analysis with an Aglient 6890N connected with Chemstation. The GC Analysis after my reaction has often more than 60 signals and I really don't want to evaluate them all by hand. Does anyone of you has a good recommendation for a programm or tool, that sorts all signals of different export files to the corresponding retention time, so that I don't have to do that by my own?

Thank you very much!

Please excuse the ignorance.  What does the "N" signify on the 6890?

Hi Marquis,

The Agilent 6890N (~mid 2000s) was a 'networkable' update version of the HP 6890 (~mid 1990s). As far I can tell, both versions are nigh on identical in terms of hardware and capabilities, but the N version could be controlled locally and also via network which I guess for most people meant a computer connected via LAN cable.
From what I can gather, the community seemed to love the 'indestructible' 6890 which maybe explains why the N version was released despite its obvious replacement (the 7890A) having been released a few years earlier.

Thanks for the.info.   As for the instrument, what's the detector ?  What's your column, injector and all the other specifics about the instrument?  And what are you trying to identify?  Can you give method specifics?  Thanks in advance!

We were after the 6890, when we bought a new gc.  But agilent wanted to get rid of the last of their 5890s.  So we got a couple of last 5890 series III+ .  One went to a new 5972 quad detector.  The other had a couple of detectors, both FID and TCD.  And the computers to run them were shared with the agilent HPLC.  The QA dept wanted some backup, so we had to have an ri detector for the hplc, as well as the DAD.  Well, there many other issues.  But with all this stuff , a network was essential.  Not that we tied it into the company network.  Anyway, are you talking about a mass spec, or just a regular chromatogram?
