Hybridization Question

is the bond

C-C-C and O and H attached to the middle C is sp3 bond?

How many carbon are sp3 in this compound?...I'm kinda confused about sp3 thing....when we look for sp3 orbital..do we count lone pair in it or not?

Only count Carbons as sp3.

All carbon atoms have sp3 hybridization, all bonds in maltose are sigma bonds

according to VSEPR, an atom is said to be sp3 hybridised if its valence shell contains 4 electron pairs. an electron pair is either a lone pair or bonding pair. consequently, sp3 hybridised atoms exihibits tetrahedral electron pair geometry

normally..

when a carbon has 4 bonds, it's sp3 hybridized  (1s orbital, 3 p orbitals = 4)
when a carbon has 3 bonds (1 is a double bond) it's sp2 hybridized (1s orbital, 2 p orbitals = 3), the unhybridized Pz orbital forms the Pi double bond
when a carbon has 2 bonds (both being double bonds), it's sp hybridized (1s orbital, 1p orbital = 2), the Py and Pz unhybridized orbital for the 2 double bonds

remember lone pairs count as hybridized
