Ethanoic acid react with PCl5

The result is HCl gas come out.

But , when we test it , why should we bring the wet stopper of ammonia bottle close to the mouth of the test tube?

I know....but the point is what reaction occured when NH3 is used

NH3 (g) + HCl (g) --> NH4Cl (s)
