Topic: How could you tell whether or not a molecule *could* have pi bonds?  (Read 3602 times)

Just by looking at its Lewis structure, how could you tell whether or not a molecule could have pi bonds?

If the Lewis structure has multiple (i.e double or triple bonds) in it, than it has pi bonds.  A double bond has one sigma and one pi bond and a triple bond has one sigma bond and two pi bonds.

Right. And from Lewis structure, multiple bonds mean multiple electron pair shared.
