Calculation trouble with a dissolution test

Writing a report on a dissolution test of lithium carbonate tablets i have done and i need to convert my results of Lithium (mg/l) to the corresponding values for lithium carbonate (mg).

Averge weight of tablets tested was: 550.05 mg
Amount of lithium carbonate in tablets was: 398.2 mg
Reference solution strength was; 9.4 ppm.

Any help at all is greatly appreciated.

I'm sorry but I can't understand what you have to do.

You determined the amount of lithium, didn't you? Do you have to establish how many grams of lithium carbonate are in each tablet?

I added a sample of my lithium carbonate into a flame photometer and it gave me results for Lithium in ppm. I converted those to Lithium mg/L  and now I need to convert those results of Lithium mg/L to the corresponding valiues for Lithium Carbonate in mg and I havent got a clue how to do it.

Odd as it may sound, you simply go through moles: Li2CO3 -> 2Li++CO32-.

Otherwise, I'm sorry, but I still don't get it. :-[

Very simple:
From mass of Lithium carbonate, calculate its number of moles
Then moles of Lithium equal two times much more than that of Lithium carbonate

I do not know what you mean when say:


Reference solution strength was; 9.4 ppm.

I'm not sure about this, but would the density of the lithium carbonate help?
