Pro-Science Moderates Regain Control of Kansas School Board
« on: August 02, 2006, 12:17:14 PM »
The anti-science school board took some pretty nasty hits from last night's primaries. Pro-science incumbent Janet Waugh kept her seat, while Connie Morris and Iris Van Meter's replacement (son-in-law Brad Patzer) were both eliminated. 2 anti-science board members did make it to the November election, but I'm not sure they'll make it through the real election.

Long story short, Pro-Science has a 6-4 majority on the Kansas Board of Education, and could possibly have an 8-2 majority after November. This round of madness is over.

That's good. In my area things have been quite. No one is complaining about evolution being taught in schools, and last I checked it's taut in all the schools in New Hampshire with no disclaimer.

I think maybe and obscure school district somewhere in the state had a complaint though, but not recently.

Things are in somewhat of a passive, but productive stage for the religious agendas in my area. I live in a very conservative valley in California. I'm graduated from highschool, but my highschool is now in the motion of teaching a Bible class that looks at the history of the bible from a "Historian's" perspective.

As long as it's purely the FACTUAL historical aspects, that's a good thing. It can't hurt to learn the history of Christianity since it is such a large part of global history. Also since the old testament has a lot of things that Jews use, it's good for possibly teaching acceptance.

Too bad things tend not work like they're envisioned too. I hope the teacher is able to put aside his/her beliefs, and teach just facts.

Well, from what I remember in this teacher's "Sports Medicine" class...we would have these work sheets, or movies that would always say, "the foot was designed, or the ankle was designed to withold the entire body" He would always make a comment about that.
