consider a quadratic equation of the form x
2
+ 2xy + y
2
= 0
the polynomial can be factorised into (x + y)
2
.
however, if we add constants, the equation becomes ax
2
+ bxy + cy
2
= 0.
it is possible to solve it then?

It works only, if
2ac=b

you can factorise that other polynomial, too. just subtract the roots. But it's not really a nice expression
