balancing coordination complex equation
« on: February 04, 2007, 06:28:07 AM »
im trying to balance a coordination complex equation and having some serious trouble, heres what ive got so far, reaction is addition of potassium dichromate to ethane-1,2-dioic acid (oxalic acid) with addition of water, after evolution of steam and Co2 industrial alcohol is added.  im not really sure what all to include in equation..but i think it is

H2C204 + K2Cr2O7 + H2O -------> K[Cr(C2O4)2(H20)2].2H2O + CO2

i tried various ways of balancing but couldnt get it to work, then i tried a ionic equation and got it to balance but dont really understand how to apply it to the full equation

H2C2O4 +Cr2O72- + 8H+ -----> Cr3+ + CO2 + H2O

can anyone point me in right direction please?
