Why is the C-C triple bond so unstable while the N-N triple bond is very stable?

Stable? Do you mean not reactive, not reactive with O2, not reactive in light, what do you mean?

Most Common Suggestions I Make on the Forums.
1. Start by writing a balanced chemical equation.
2. Don't confuse thermodynamic stability with chemical reactivity.

By 'stable' I guess I mean that the C-C triple bond is much easier to break than the N-N triple bond.

probably due to the smaller nuclear charge in the carbon atoms, added to the smaller atomic radius in nitrogen making a longer bond length in the case of C-C triple...
