Sulphuric Acid and Sugar, what happens?

i heard that if you combine Sulphuric Acid and Sugar togather it will crate a pillar of almost pure carbon, i wanted to know if this was true (getting a hold of Sulphuric Acid is kinda hard lol) and if it is if any of you know what the chemical formula is? thanks for your time
