Gallian to Lorentz Transformations
« on: January 09, 2005, 06:45:55 PM »
When Einstein was formulating his special theory of relativity for light, he noted that the "Gallian Transformations to not work in this realm." (I may be ad libbing a bit.)  The texts that I have read, if I am understanding correctly, says that the Lorentz transformations apply for special relativity.

I am confused on (since there is nothing in either text I have read):
1) Where the Gallian Transformations came from and what they were used for.
2) Where the Lorentz Transformations came from and what they were used for.
3) If Einstein has worked out these new set of transformations, supposedlty, why does this Lorentz fellow get the tag for them and not the "Einstein Transformations."

Thank you,
