My Chem Sir gave me a real toughie of a problem....
This is the question:
Balance the reaction in basic medium..
CrI3 + H2O2 + OH- ------> (CrO4)2- + (IO4)- + H20
I got these things clear:
Cromium is oxidised from +3 oxidation state to +6 oxidation state
Iodine is also oxidised from -1 to +7 oxidation state
Hydrogen Peroxide is reduced to Water
I dont know how to proceed as since there are two oxidation half reactions and one reduction reaction..
Any help on this prob will be greatly appreciated.
and how to solve such similar probs when more than a single oxidation or red reaction is taking place?
