Does refluxing accomplish the same thing as evacuation?  I have a water based solution that I have to degas before vacuum-distilling it but the degassing step is a total pain.  The bubbles climb the glass and won't break for a long time.  So I want to try to reflux it to degass it.  Is this feasible?

I would have thought that it will still degas when you apply the vacuum for the distillation, whether you reflux it or not, and in refluxing, you could risk breaking down your product (otherwise, why not carry out a normal distillation?).  Just apply the vacuum slowly and when it starts foaming, close the tap, keep doing it in increments.

That's what i'd recommend.

I have been using vaccum filtration for degassing prupose which worked very well for me. or you can sonicate for few minutes.
