Relative Atomic Mass
« on: September 12, 2007, 02:11:50 PM »
Hi there! I'm not quite sure how to complete the end of this question, so can anyone help?

By mass, compound of iron, titanium and oxygen contains 28% iron, 36% titanium and has an Mr of 299.

Find its molecular and its empirical formulae.

This is currently what I have:

ElementsFeTiO
Proportions283636
Moles28/5636/204.3836/16
Moles
0.5
0.176...2.25
Division by lowest factor
2
0.704119

Any help with corrections or solutions?

Thanks

The relative atomic mass of Ti is ~48, not 204!

Edit: I think there is also a typo in the question, Mr = 399, not 299
