Carvone with Br2/CCl4?
« on: September 16, 2007, 07:36:20 PM »
Heya,

I am having trouble drawing the structural equation for carvone with Br2/CCl4. I know the double bonds are broken but not so sure how to represent it....

Do you know the structural formula for Carvone?
http://www.refer.mg/cours/wcl/ter/te14.htm

Your reaction is an addition reaction.  Your right in that the C-C double bonds will break - but this occurs with the addition of 2Br2.  Add Br to each of the C's formerly part of the 2 C-C double bonds in Carvone to get your product.
Hope that helps - I couldn't find a picture :)

i manage to finish all my pracs by googling stuff like that..

eg. enter in google "major constituent of volatile oil of from dill seed" or something similar. seems to me like u cant be bothered so you post questions on forums :/

like cmon, Br2 test, a very common test, put that in google you will find many many structural representations of the addition reaction. then all you have to do is apply the changes (double bond being broken , u can google what happens to that double bond  because im not about to tell you, its even in the lecture notes for gods sake..) to your equation in the prac.

simple.

yeah correction, i do pcB242 :P at qut.
