I dont know much about chemestry, but ive got a program from crocodile clips that simulates chemical reactions, it has a parts bin with beakers and chemicals, powders, and all kinds of stuff. well, i grabed a beaker, and droped in 15g of cobalt chloride powder, and 50mL of Sulfuric acid. it turned red, i think thats what the program uses to tell that whatever it is is hot, so i grabbed a thermometer, switched it to F, and stuck it in the beaker, and reset the mixture, and the temp went from 77F to 220F, and it slowly drops down. anyone know why this happens? or if it even should happen?

cobalt chloride forms a hydrate (i.e. it binds water molecules to it in and forms a complex)

cobalt chloride forms a hydrate (i.e. it binds water molecules to it in and forms a complex)

To elaborate a little further, when it "binds" with water molecules, the process is endothermic (requires heat) so it takes the heat from the surrounding environment lowering the temperature.

Thanks
I found a menu thingy setting that tells me whats in the beaker, how hot it is, the PH level, the temprature, and reactions taking place.
