Gold Electrolysis
« on: October 10, 2007, 10:00:35 AM »
hello, my name is polar bear and im new to this forum :D.
i have a burning passion for gold, probably much more than ordinary people.
i would like to buy all the gold in the world, but my wallet is against me :(
so then i have to get gold other ways. i recently read that you dont wanna throw out ya old computas (lol spelling) because the contain a minute amount of gold.
this was very pleasing for me because i am into electronics and i have very much old PC equipment, old modems, motherboards, some funky serial cards, all have gold plated connectors!

so here is my question; how do i preform a reversed gold electrolysis?
i read from http://www.sparknotes.com/chemistry/electrochemistry/electrolytic/section1.html
(go a little down on the site) that you can gold plate stuff with a gold electrolysis.
so from what i know in chemistry cant you just reverse that process to get the gold off the connections?
i have a little gold that i got from old broken jewelry that i can use as anode.
i also have a power supply, which i change the voltage from 3,3v to 20v and it has like 100A

so does anyone know how i can get the gold of the connections, what solution do i put it in?
if anyone knows please reply i really really want more gold.
thanks

Dear Polar Bear6,

I believe, you will face “SYSIPHUS Workwithout any end!

As the contacts are plated with 15 till 80 microns of gold, you need tonnes of electronic scrap to collect finely ONE gram of pure gold.
On the other side you will have to spend several times “one gram of gold”, for all the “ingredients” to extract the gold contained therein.

I would say, there are a Lot of much easer ways to get an additional gram of gold, as the one you selected for you.

SORRY!!

Good Luck!

ah man :( real bummer. i was really hoping this would work.
but you say there are other ways i can get gold, the only 2 ways i know is to steal them from someone or to get a job and buy it, and i really dont have the time to plan a heist. and a job sounds real boring.
or, maybe i could get a job at the jewelery lol.
but what are those other ways you were talking about?
