In order to obtain the a pure form of CDTA ( 1,2-diaminocylohexane tetraacetic acid ) what would be the best solvent for crystalization of the precipitate form the reaction producing the CDTA? This is the synthesis uses formaldehyde combined with sodium cyanide reacted together with 1,2,-diaminocyclohexane. Since CDTA is only slightly soluble in water I would think that perhaps ethanol would work. I am not sure what the impurities are but I suspect since ammonia is given off there is probably some ammonia tetraacetic acid being formed. I would also expect some sodium salts of other unknown impurties are present as well.
