Enthalpy + Ice and Water

Can someone help me understand this:

By salting the crushed ice, the beer got cold faster.

Why?! I have recently studied some Enthalpy, so if anyone could give me an explanation to this using anything related to Enthalpy I'd be very grateful!

The explanation for this phenomenon actually has more to do with entropy than enthalpy.

Thanks for the reply! The wiki page was wayy too complicated but I really found your other link useful. I didn't get the delta stuff but I got the theory. Is there any more info on this? My friend (who is offline now, so he can't help) talked about the bonds between the athoms/molekyles. Something about Hydrogen bond, Ionic bond and god knows what.

Also wonder if this reaction is endo or exoterm.
