WORKING BACKWARDS
« on: November 26, 2007, 01:21:39 PM »
 Please help with this problem.

An unsaturated fatty acid with (C24 H40 O2) molecular formula. Hydrogenation yields unbranched caboxylic acid (C24 H48 O2). Ozonolysis of unsat fatty acid yields 2 (1,3 propanedial) and hexanal and aldehydic acid (C12 H22 O3).

Try this and if you can explain it a little. Thank you

Ozonolysis gives you information on position of double bonds in unsaturated fatty acid
C6H12O + OCHCH2CCHO + OCHCH2CCHO + OCHC10H20COOH
