Hi everybody, this is my first time posting, but i have been reading for a while....here is my question:

Ph-CHO + CH2O with conc NaOD and heat, what is the product?

First, it looks like a radiolabeling problem to me.  I could see that the there are 2 electophiles and one nucleophile (OD-), but i really don't know where it could go from there....any thoughts?  thanks

Looks like a 'crossed Cannizarro' reaction.  Use OD^- as the attacking nucleophile and see where it leads you.
