In a classic case of the blind leading the ever hopeful, my children and I are trying to make cotton flame retardant. Someone suggested soaking the cotton in boric acid. I took organic chemistry in college, but I must confess I made an 18 on my final exam (that's 18 out of 100) and though I have managed to survive our experimental endeavors, I don't know what to expect with boric acid and cotton. Can anyone make a suggestion before we melt down the kitchen? Thanks. Doug. (PS What other chemicals can we try in an effort to make the cotton resist burning?)
