Pressure volume work question
« on: December 02, 2007, 07:59:23 PM »
I tried to do this question but I got confused

1. How much work is done, in joules when an external pressure of 2.5 atm is applied at a constant temp of 20 degrees celsius, to 50g of N2 in a 75L cylinder.
The answer is -114 joules of work done by system

How do I find delta V? How can I do the rest?

Also I had another question. Say 1 mole of Gas X + 1mole of a solid gives us 2 moles of Gas Y.
1 X(g) + 1 Z(s) ---> 2Y(g)

Is there any pressure volume work done in that equation? Since we have 2 moles of gas now?

Thanks in advance

When will the cylinder stop contracting - what will be the internal pressure?
