CaSO4 Sedimentation ?
« on: December 12, 2007, 07:35:20 PM »
Hello guys,
I'm currently trying to make nitric acid with Ca(NO3)2 but I haven't had much success yet. All the precipitate (CaSO4), or Plaster of Paris, stays in suspension... and the solution looks like cottage cheese. Is there any ways to get the nitric acid without distillation ? I don't want to add to much water too. I don't want the concentration of the Nitric acid to be less than 35%. I'm using 95%+ sulfuric acid by the way.

Thanks a lot.

In medium concentrated HNO3 solubility of CaSO4 cannot be neglected, hence filtering through sintered glass funnel is useless.

Only distillation will work
